On March 23rd, the Town of Newport, Oregon held its grand opening for the Agate Beach TRACK Trail. This TRACK Trail features varying habitats along the coast and is a one mile section of the longer Ocean to Bay Trail. The community played a big part in the installation of this TRACK Trail, especially the boy scout group that created two wooden frames for the signage. This is the 13th TRACK Trail in Oregon and made possible through a partnership with Oregon Parks Forever. Seth Miller, the executive director of Oregon Parks Forever, stated “our mission is to enhance the experience and accessibility of Oregon’s Parks & Forests, and this is an important project for us.” He has plans to add many more sites to the Kids in Parks map!
As part of the grand opening, an all-terrain Track Chair was revealed to attendees. This Track Chair, presented by the David's Chair organization, will be available for free for mobility-impaired visitors wanting to experience and explore the trail. David’s Chair provides people and their families with a way to enjoy outdoor excursions at locations that are inaccessible to regular wheelchairs.
