As we reflect on our Giving Tuesday initiative, we are beyond thankful for the gifts that have poured in along with your kind words. We’ve raised $4,507.25 of our $5,000 goal, which is an amazing feat. Many of the parks we partner with in the western North Carolina region are still recovering from the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene. However, your donations are already hard at work providing ways for TRACK Trail sites to serve the public once again.

Though Chimney Rock State Park (Chimney Rock, NC) is closed at this time, the education team was ready to jump back into public outreach. Kids in Parks donated brochures for them to use, and they found a temporary location at the Tryon International Equestrian Center & Resort. Staff, alongside their animal ambassadors, have been busy visiting local schools and science centers and using the facilities in Tryon to deliver public programs. They’ve been able to bring a ‘Chimney Rock’ field trip to the classroom, providing a sense of normalcy and resilience for children in this area. Maddy Kaniewski, Communications & Promotions Specialist for Chimney Rock State Park, reflects on this experience thus far:

“It’s been a privilege to support and teach local students and families, especially after all they’ve been through following the storm. Being able to share resources like TRACK Trails at our outreach programs has been a meaningful way to keep families engaged with nature and inspired to explore, even though our park trails are temporarily closed. We believe nature has a special ability to bring peace and clarity in difficult times, and we’re so grateful for our partnership with Kids in Parks, which has allowed us to continue offering these opportunities. We truly appreciate all the ways Kids in Parks helps us stay connected with our guests.”

We hope this story will be one of many as we work with partners to provide alternative ways for them to serve the community once again. It is a long, arduous road ahead, but we are dedicated to our TRACK Trail partners. If you feel moved to support our initiative, we are less than $500 away from reaching our goal of 5,000 dollars. Wrap up the year with a gift that gives back - give the gift of hope and recovery this holiday season. Thank you for helping us finish the year strong.
