Hurricane Helene: TRACK Trail Closures & Reopenings

Below is the most up-to-date list of TRACK Trail sites impacted by the storm. This is an active list and KIP staff are monitoring and updating locations regularly. For parks that have reopened, please use extreme caution when traveling to and from the site and while on the trails.

1. Crystal Springs Recreation Area - Wytheville, VA

2. Grayson Highlands State Park - Mouth of Wilson, VA

      • Park Comment: “All trails are passable with the exception of Listening Rock and Stampers Branch. Only access to the park is via Rt. 600 from Chilhowie Exit 35 of Interstate 81. This route may be difficult for some vehicles given significant grade”

SOUTH CAROLINA  (a-z)

1. Battle of Musgrove Mill State Historic Site - Clinton, SC

      • Park Comment: “The Paved Trail up to the Horseshoe Falls Overlook is now open and the British Camp Trail is open. Battlefield Trail and our Canoe Launch Area are still closed.”

3. Cowpens National Battlefield - Gaffney, SC

      • Park Comment: “The nature trail, portions of the battlefield trail, and the picnic loop are closed. The visitor center is open.”
4. Kings Mountain National Military Park - Blacksburg, SC

      • Park Comment: “The Canal Trail is open. The Nature Trail is closed for repairs until further notice. Canoe/kayak access points are no longer easily identified or accessible, due to storm damage. Some river channels have filled with sand and debris. Paddling is not recommended if you are not experienced on this river.”

       • We believe the TRACK Trail is still closed, certain trails have reopened, like portions of the OVT and Hortons Holler trails, but the Dark Mountain trails are still closed. Most around the dam are damaged from the hurricane.
